A good haircut means…
You look good and feel good! For me a good haircut means not just following a map or formula. Everyone’s hair is different! I’m good at taking an artistic and personalized approach to each haircut. I’m big on final touches and fine tuning, too. There’s never a client that leaves my chair without a little touch up. Call me meticulous…
Let’s talk about short haircuts.
I love doing short haircuts for both men and women. For women in particular it takes a lot of confidence to go short, and I love being part of that. Short cuts have so much versatility: you can change your color more often, and little changes go a long way.
How about long hair and blowouts?
Long layers are another specialty of mine. Layers allow movement, add volume, and really bring the shape of a haircut together. I love doing big, smooth, flowy, Hollywood hair blowouts, too. It looks foxy and lasts for days.
What’s your take on dramatic hair changes?
It’s important for a hairstylist to understand that big change means different things to different people when it comes to hair. It doesn’t have to be an extreme change in length to feel and look a lot different! Even just adding bangs or layers can dramatically alter your whole look. That said, I do love big, bold transformations. Have long hair but want a pixie cut or strong, structured bob? Let’s do it! We can also work on transitioning to a more dramatic change, too, if that’s what you’re comfortable with.
What’s your secret weapon for great hair?
Confidence. Pure and simple.
What’s your take on using hair products?
We’ve got a great range of hair products at VAIN and I have my favorites, but I’m a bit of a minimalist when it comes to using product. Let’s start with a great haircut, quality shampoo and conditioner, tips on how to dry your hair at home, and take it from there. If you’re someone who loves layering product or if the look you want really needs that product boost or hold, we’ll get you set up. If not, we can keep it simple. Sometimes less is more.
Where do you draw your hair inspiration from?
My clients are my inspiration when it comes to hair. I love seeing how they evolve their looks. Co-workers are another source of inspiration- both with their own hair and the hair they do here at the salon. Hair that’s part of fashion magazine editorials is another one. It’s amazing to see how it can seamlessly become part of the overall design.
Describe your own approach to personal and hair style.
I get bored easily, so I need to switch it up every day, whether it’s through clothing or how I style my hair. Change is good.
What’s your approach with new clients?
I try to make them feel warm and welcome and comfortable. Getting your hair done can be a very personal experience, so I just keep that in mind, listen, and try to make clients feel at ease and know that I want them to look great, too.
How about regular clients?
I always ask them how they’re enjoying their cut, anything they want to change, and any style inspiration they’ve had lately. I want to make sure they’re not in a hair rut. You might be coming in for a trim, but talking about cool hair you’ve seen recently might inspire you to go a little further.
Any notable hair experiences?
Shaving heads for a women’s rights group. To have so many people share the experience of shedding their hair in such a dramatic way and for a good cause was amazing. It went way beyond just hair.
