What do you think makes a great hairstylist?
Skills and someone who can identify with you and doesn’t act like they were born with the best hair in the world. A stylist who can say "I understand how important your hair is to you because my hair’s important to me, too." I think that makes a great stylist.
What's your VAIN clientele like?
It's diverse. I have a lot of rock n' roll guys as clients, brides looking for non-prom looks, long-haired ladies, blondes who want some variation and dimension. I have clients of all ages and styles.
What's your approach with clients?
I try to help clients feel comfortable talking about their hair, what they’ve always wanted it to look like. It can be a really personal thing. I also show them how to trim their own bangs and always try to give people styles they can work with and re-create. Nobody wants to fight their hair every day.
What’s your approach with your own hair?
I've been embracing my natural texture lately- not curly and not straight. I try different stylists at both VAIN locations for my cuts and color, and I switch it up when I get re-inspired. I cut my bangs myself and do a little DIY texturizing.
What advice would give someone who’s not happy with their hair?
To not worry, that it really doesn’t take much or anything drastic to change your look and your outlook on your hair. I want my clients to feel great about their hair and that’s what I’m here to do.
