Why are you called the HXC Hairstylist?
HXC means hardcore hair. The name came from the music I was into combined with my passion for doing hair. If you’re really into something 100%, that’s hardcore. I’m hardcore about hair.

Tell us about some notable hair you’ve done.
A lot of music industry work- Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, Daphne Loves Derby, other bands. Photo shoots for Strangercrombie, Zebra Club, and more.

What’s your approach with new clients?
I try to get an idea of their likes, dislikes, and where they’re willing go with their hair. I try to always stay inside the person’s comfort zone while trying to be fashion forward.

What are your style influences?
Music is a big one- musicians can be iconic with their hair and create their own styles. I get ideas from fashion and walking around the city but music is where I draw the most inspiration.

Describe your dream day doing hair.
I’d start off with something creative and outside the box. Do a color and haircut combination, a complete style change. Eradicate someone’s problem grow-out color with a flattering rich dark shade. And I’d be drinking Cherry Coke.

What’s the most hardcore hair you’ve done?
I’ve done hair in the most dimly lit, hottest music venues all over the country, in the middle of parking lots and in backstage bathrooms. I’ve done hair on the 73rd floor of a building with the city as my backdrop. That was pretty hardcore.

Life outside VAIN?
I like listening to music, going to shows, watching movies, hanging out with my son Christian and teaching him to headbang. And getting tattooed.

Why work at VAIN?
I like VAIN because it’s big enough that there’s always something going on from classic to creative. I like what it stands for and where it’s going. VAIN’s moving upwards and that’s what I’m trying to do too.
