What do you love about doing hair and why?
Hair is a truly individual form of self-expression that has a direct effect on our everyday lives. When you feel confident about your look, you feel more at ease and ready to conquer anything life throws at you. Hair gives us a way to explore who we are as individuals. I love that I get to be part of that process with my clients.

What's your secret weapon for great hair?
Find a routine that works for you. What that routine entails is different for every person, but once you figure it out, you’ll be able to achieve a look you love with ease.

What are your hair style influences?
My earliest influences are punk rock, metal, and hard rock music and fashion, which I discovered in my early teens while weathering a particularly angst-filled time. By the time I graduated from high school I wore my hair in a 1.5-foot tall sideways Mohawk and added bows and other accessories to my look over time.

Today I’m influenced by nature in all its forms. I love hair accessories and jewelry made from wood, gemstones, crystals, bones, and other natural materials. I’m also into the styles from music festivals. These gatherings encourage individuality, creativity, and acceptance, all of which festivalgoers embrace in their personal styles.

What inspires you as a hairstylist?
As a hairstylist I am inspired by all aspects of nature, my family, friends, new people, music, art and festivals. I want to help my clients see the potential they have in reaching their hair aspirations on their own. Being connected

What's your approach with new clients?
I am very soft spoken and patient. I want my clients to feel comfortable taking their time to explain what they’d like to achieve and any past hair experiences they think are important to share. I ask detailed questions in order to understand each client’s personal style vision and help them think through their goals for the future.

What's the best hair advice you've ever been given?
Don't be afraid of change. Hair is the best way to express your personality and should reflect who you are.

What inspired you to become a hairstylist?
Growing up as an introvert, I sometimes found it hard to express myself but when I started experimenting with my hair, I knew I’d found my voice. My parents encouraged me to pursue my passion and my friends let me experiment on them with all sorts of unusual colors and styles. I loved being able to be a good listener to my friends and family while also making them feel great about themselves through their hair. Over time, hair became my primary creative outlet and a gratifying way to connect with others.

Tell us about your education and professional experience.
I received basic cosmetology training at Olympic College in Bremerton while still in high school. From there, I went to the Gary Manuel Aveda Institute, where I graduated in 2013.

Life and interests outside of VAIN?
I love being out in nature exploring trails and finding places to unwind. Any place with live music and art is likely to catch my attention. I like spending time with family, which ranges from visiting my parents across the Sound to traveling to see relatives in northern Idaho and Virginia. I have two cats and a dog I absolutely adore and I like making jewelry, painting, home decorating, and other crafty activities.
