Oh, Onesta!

If you know me, you know that when I fall for a line of hair care products, I fall hard. And I’ve fallen hard for one, dear VAIN Blog readers.

Its name is Onesta.

Let me count the ways I love Onesta: the products are natural, color safe and free of harmful parabens and sulfates. They contain organic botanical extracts like sea kelp, green tea, sunflower and white willow bark, and they leave my hair feeling super clean and soft. Plus they smell amazing (seriously: we’re talking pure and vaguely peachy with subtle undertones of fresh citrus and what I can only describe as all-natural Tide. I am addicted to this entrancing organic aroma!). I use the Strengthening Shampoo ($12.95 at VAIN) and Daily Conditioner (ditto) topped off with a bit of the Volumizing Foam for body and shine, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. So good!

But don’t just take my word for it. Come experience Onesta for yourself! VAIN is hosting an Onesta event this Saturday, August 20 from 1-3pm at our downtown salon. We’ll have Onesta freebies, a chance to win products, and an Onesta expert onhand to answer questions about the line and recommend specific products based on your hair type.

Hot Hair: Natural Feathers

Since we first told you about the feather extensions we offer at VAIN, we’ve put all sorts of colors into our clients’ hair- hot pink + teal blue, electric yellow, you name it. But today we’d like to share the softer side of the feather extensions craze: natural-colored feathers. These feathers are un-dyed or only subtly colored, creating a more organic look and even blending into your hair.

6%DOKIDOKI Harajuku Appearance at VAIN!

Get your cameras + autograph books (remember those?) ready: on Wednesday, April 20th from 5 to 6pm, Harajuku fashion line 6%DOKIDOKI will be making a special appearance at VAIN downtown as part of its Harajuku Kawaii Experience 2011 Tour with MIGHTY HARAJUKU Project. They’re in Seattle for an appearance at the Sakura-Con 2011 anime convention + we are so excited to have them stopping by to say hello in full Harajuku style. Get ready to see a lot of amazing pictures from the VAIN Mirror digital photo booth in our salon (+ feel free to come take some yourselves with 6%DOKIDOKI shop girls Yuka + Vani!).

Ole, Ombre!

Call it the Drew Barrymore, call it “recession” hair, call it anything you like, but the grown out look is number one in popularity in the world of hair color right now. We at VAIN Beauty World like to keep you guys in the know and give you an update from time to time to make sure you guys are like, at the top of your game and whatnot.

Way to be hot, girl!

Let’s start with the facts. To get the look and keep up with the process is a further and fewer in between service than you’re probably used to if you get hair color regularly. Depending on how it’s done and how close the root color is tinted to your own natural head of hairs is a big factor. If you want to get a touch up every 4 to six months, make sure to ask for a color that is closest to your “real life” hair, or, if it’s a touch darker than what the good lord gave ‘ya, that it will fade appropriately.

There are two services that you can ask for if you’re interested in emulating this awesome and affordable ‘do. To get something more like Drew, ask for someone who specializes in the Ombre technique. The cool thing about this particular type of hair color is that you can rock it as subtly or dramatically as your heart desires.

You can also request to have a balayage, which is similar, but the color tends to be more broken up as opposed to solidly flowing from one shade to the next.

Both results are gorgeous. Balayage is also a great alternative to traditional foil highlights for our curly haired friends. The technique results in a much easier grow out and less highlighting touch up appointments.

Above all else, we love that the variation of techniques available makes it pretty much universally appropriate for all hair types and lengths. Get on in here and get ready to be awesome!

Feather Hair Extensions at VAIN!!!!!

We’re offering a new service at VAIN that we knew would be hot right away: feather hair extensions. That’s right: feather. hair. extensions.

The Look: Feathers in hair!

The Details: These ain’t no clip-in pieces: the feathers are real + secured to your hair with a tiny bead, a method that requires no glue or heat- the bead basically acts as a barely-visible clamp. They last for about a month or more (or less if you just want them for a special occasion) + can be washed, dried + even gently flat-ironed or curled along with the rest of your hair. Removal is quick + easy. Here’s the best part: they only cost $25 for the first bundle of 4-5 feathers + $15 for any bundles after that, including cost of having them put in.

In a previous post we bragged all about how we are polishing up our skills for you and wrangling the new trends into one little perfect package for your own enjoyment. With holiday parties just around the corner, we’d like to unveil the first of the many new tricks we have up our sleeves- the Kevin Murphy Screen Siren Set. Basically, we can get you from flat to fabulous in a 45 minute party hair appointment!

The ever debonair William(aire) demonstrated the amazing techniques to us mane managers and thanks to him, you’re liable to reap the benefits when you book an appointment for some fancy flair. VAIN Academy

Advancing our know-how and tweaking the power of our shears is something that we @ VAIN Beauty World hold very near and dear to our stylish hearts. In fact, I’m pretty sure that senior stylist/icon Jenny Slay has big dreams of opening up a future awesome VAIN beauty school starring her and VAIN superhero/owner Victoria Gentry as directors. It for sure would be the most rad thing to happen for aspiring beauticians in the Seattle area, but let’s be real- there’s tons to do within our own beauty world right now and autumn is bringing falling leaves and swooning stylists. Education is too hot to handle!!!

The Queen of Cool and Special Occasion Styling, Jenny Slay

For starters, the amazingly talented Kellianne is back from maternity and wow-ing the pants off everyone again, this time by single handedly teaching a series of advanced creative cutting classes for the junior stylists (i.e. the little slices of awesome who are newer to the scene but deliver hot hair at an even hotter price) to get inside their brains and perfect their skill. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime to be under the eye of such a master of her craft and after one class, I’m hungry for more.
