Hot Hair: Cut to Grow Out Well

Today we answer the age-old hair questions 1. Why cut your hair if you’re growing it out? and 2. How can you avoid that awkward “grow out” look?

Well, here’s why and here’s how:

The look: Cut to look good while growing out!

Bash says: “Taylor came in wanting to grow her hair out into a bob without having a “grow out” boxy look. We took some length off at the nape in order to let her already short sides catch up and did some texturizing and facial framing, but left a nice weight through the cut so it would grow out naturally into that nice bob shape.”

So there you have it, VAIN Blog readers. Transitional hairstyles can look both great and intentional with the right shaping. No more awkward in-between styles!

Hot Hair: Winter White

Bash says: “It’s always fun to cut Ryli’s hair. She’ll come in with an idea like a sharp angled bang and we’ll take it from there.”

Carissa says: “Having clients like Ryli make my job easy! This extreme icy/cool tone works all year round, but it’s very fitting for winter months. It reminds me of a snowflake. You can even add more blue to a platinum toner to get a more silver effect. The more you add, the darker the silver, into grey/gunmetal hues. This look is easier achieved on those with naturally light hair.”

Hot Hair: Natural Feathers

Since we first told you about the feather extensions we offer at VAIN, we’ve put all sorts of colors into our clients’ hair- hot pink + teal blue, electric yellow, you name it. But today we’d like to share the softer side of the feather extensions craze: natural-colored feathers. These feathers are un-dyed or only subtly colored, creating a more organic look and even blending into your hair.

Hot Hair: Extensions are magic.

You’ve heard it from us before: extensions can transform your hair in incredible ways. They’re great for adding length and/or volume, but they don’t always get enough cred for what they can do with color [Editor's note: have we ever told you about the time we added baby blue extensions to a bride's hair to match her wedding color scheme? True story. But back to the extensions at hand]. Here’s a great example of extensions added for color coming straight outta VAIN Ballard:

Can’t quite tell which parts are extensions? That’s the magic. Lucie explains:

“Gretchen wanted funky color without having to pre-lift her hair or worry about colors bleeding or fading. I colored her hair in panels of red shades and put in bright red violet, crazy red, and peach extensions on top. The extension colors are really what made the big transformation.”

Feather Hair Extensions at VAIN!!!!!

We’re offering a new service at VAIN that we knew would be hot right away: feather hair extensions. That’s right: feather. hair. extensions.

The Look: Feathers in hair!

The Details: These ain’t no clip-in pieces: the feathers are real + secured to your hair with a tiny bead, a method that requires no glue or heat- the bead basically acts as a barely-visible clamp. They last for about a month or more (or less if you just want them for a special occasion) + can be washed, dried + even gently flat-ironed or curled along with the rest of your hair. Removal is quick + easy. Here’s the best part: they only cost $25 for the first bundle of 4-5 feathers + $15 for any bundles after that, including cost of having them put in.

Kelly says: “I’m going to make everyone look like a swan!”

We did some disconnected layers and then did all the ends pink to kind of create a sexy unicorn kind of thing, then the striped piece. I love the stripes because they have kind of a feather-like effect depending on where your hair lies and how wide you make them.”

Ariel says: “My hair belongs to Jenny Slay.”
