That’s why we were extremely excited to see long-time client and apiarist extraordinaire Corky Luster in the running for AMD’s Visionary of the Year Award for his start-up Ballard Bee Company. Corky and his wife Karen (who both frequent VAIN superstars Megyn and Bash) have worked tirelessly over the last few years to grow their business from backyard beekeeping into a citywide partnership with local families, farms, restaurants, and other businesses by finding sponsors for their more than 60 hives. In return, the bees go on to pollinate fruit trees, flowers, and other plants which in the big picture goes on to make Seattle a more beautiful city. Additionally, the honey produced is used in local restaurants like Bastille (which has hives conveniently located on its roof). It’s also sold around town at shops like DeLaurenti (just three blocks from VAIN Downtown) and The Field House (less than a block from VAIN Ballard).
