Mark your calendars: this Saturday, May 1st at 6:00 pm at VAIN downtown, we’re celebrating the opening reception of Sticky, the debut solo show of photographer Kevin Kauer. You know we like our art big + bold like our hair, and Kauer’s work is just that. Don’t miss your chance to check it out for yourselves.
Sticky will be on display at VAIN for the entire month of May, but there won’t be drinks + a DJ there after Saturday. 
Monday I visited VAIN Downtown to get a glimpse of the photo goodness they’re cooking up for a new project. There will be more prepping, more shooting, and more info on just WHAT they’re making in the near future. Until then, there are my behind-the-scenes shots from the day.

This Saturday as part of Ballard Art Walk, we will be unveiling the delicate designs of Elisabeth Percival.
Elisabeth is a recent Seattle transplant from Omaha. Her meticulous work is sterling and gold-fill, incorporating antique components and semi-precious stones, with a focus on symmetry and an outstanding attention to detail.

A friendly reminder to our current (+ future!) VAIN clients out there that all haircuts at VAIN downtown + VAIN Ballard include a free touch-up trim within four weeks of your original appointment. Touch-up trims are 10-minute appointments on dry hair with the stylist who gave you your original cut, and are a great way to neat things up and generally make your haircut last a little longer. These trims are by appointment only, so be sure to book yours when you come in for your original appointment.

VAIN superstars/DJs/magic makers Carly, William and Valentine are hosting a very special, very purple Make it Rain tonight at Havana. Guests U.S.E., Aqueduct, The Lashes, Kay Kay & His Weathered Underground, With Friends Like These, Ships, Sean Nelson, Weekend, The Pale Pacific and Shawn Smith are paying tribute to Prince by cranking out the jams and making you want to party like it’s 1999. Yeah, I went there.

VAIN loves seeing Do-It-Yourself hairstyles in action, and local pop/rock/dance band Motrecraft delivered at their recent show in Columbia City.
VAIN client Amy H., Motrecraft’s bassist + backing vocalist, did her own hair for the show, using a party wig to create the glamhawk effect. Her inspiration? “Adam Ant + Road Warrior + Faye Dunaway as mommy dearest. But long ago, it was a VAIN stylist that showed me you can use a combination of fake hair and your own hair to get exactly what you want.”
If what you wanted was awesome, Amy H., you got it.
Brianna H. on lead vocals also went the DIY route for the show. Love the cap topping the updo.
