Each month at VAIN Ballard we unveil new works of art by featured jewelers. This month we have one-of-a-kind recycled bling by Jackie Waits of Jacknife Jewelry, with an opening reception July 11th from 6-8:30 as part of the Ballard second Saturday art walk.

Jackie is self-taught and has been making her (as Julie K puts it) “conscientious ghetto fabulous jewelry” for 2 years now. The work is presented on this incredible display Jackie made (involving knives, cut up trees, and drywall screws) that you really should see in person.

What Jackie has to say about her work: “I love simple jewelry with a loud statement. Think jersey girl meets gangster. I love gaudy – but not cheesy. I find all of my jewelry at thrift stores. It isn’t just jewelry – sometimes I’ll use belts or take stuff off of clothes. Whatever catches my eye, I’ll find a way to make it into something.”

“I think the thing that inspires me most is knowing that I don’t have to make the same thing over and over. I love that all my designs are one-of-a-kind, and that someone can buy it knowing that there won’t be anyone else out there with the same jewelry on. I just love that.”
